Bonner County Sheriff's Office is seeking entry and lateral patrol deputy candidates. Patrol Deputies get to work in one the most beautiful places in Idaho with abundant mountains, lakes, agriculture, and small towns. We are a community oriented organization, working in partnership with the residents of the County to keep this area a safe place to live, work, play, and visit. Bonner County is the home of great winter skiing, amazing summer water sports, and some of the best hunting and fishing Idaho has to offer. Public land for recreation is also abundant, living here makes it hard to leave for vacation. Patrol Deputies work 12 hour shifts with three days off one week and 4 days off the next week. They work shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, and bid for shifts once a year. Patrol Deputies are issued a take home patrol vehicle if they live within the limits set by policy. Typical work Hours: Minimum Education: AA Degree in Police Science or Basic Training Certificate from Police Academy Preferred Job Summary: Performs professional law enforcement duties related to coordinating and directing functions of the Boundary County Sheriff's Office. As a law enforcement officer, the fundamental duty is to serve the community, to safeguard lives and property and to respect the Constitutional rights of all. Acts as field training officer for new deputies and reserve officers. Must be 21 years of age to carry firearms and attend the POST Academy. Experience Required: Must pass an extensive background investigation. Preference will be given for current Peace Officer certification or prior law enforcement experience. Must obtain basic Peace Officer certification from Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training within one year of employment. This physical fitness requirements to obtain an Idaho. POST Certification is the completion of a vertical jump, sit ups, pushups, a 300-meter run and a 1.5 mile run to a minimum standard. Required to participate in on-going training to maintain POST certification. Must be able to work under adverse weather conditions, in remote areas, at night and under extremely tense, stressful and potentially dangerous conditions. At times, a high degree of physical activity is required.

Typical hours: 40 hours per week, various shifts. Must work weekends and holidays as required. Position Summary: Monitors radios and answers telephone, including 911 system, and relays accurate and pertinent information to appropriate agency or agencies necessary to ensure a rapid and effective response. Enters data on all wanted, missing or runaway persons, protection orders, vehicles, stolen firearms and other information into nationwide law enforcement database, and provides information to law enforcement officers in the field on license registration, warrants and dangerous suspects to ensure officer safety. Experience Required: Experience in computer operation, data processing and general office skills. Education or experience in law enforcement practices and procedures preferred. Must pass ILETS / NCIC entry and inquiry test within six months of employment,and maintain ILETS certification annually. Must attend two-week Basic POST Dispatch Academy during first year of employment and one-week advanced POST Dispatch Academy within 36 months of employment and attend other classes and seminars as required. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a clear, strong voice and the ability to remain composed and professional under extremely stressful situations. Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to perform numerous tasks simultaneously and with constant interruption. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and have above-average ability to gather information from a number of sources, render a rapid decision as to the most effective response, and communicate information accurately yet concisely. Must be able to remain on-station for extended periods, ensuring that the communications center does not go un-staffed. Subject to attend various classes and seminars throughout the year, some involving spending nights away from home. UPON OBTAINING POST DISPATCH ACADEMY CERTIFICATION, salary will increase.50 an hour

Receive, search, book, photograph and secure arrested persons. Provide a safe, clean environment and dispense medication as required by a physician. Log and document monies, personal property, arrest files, mail, phone calls, and security checks. Provide security for inmates and personnel, as well as the courtroom. Supervise preparation of meals, duties of trustees, cleaning, work release, and visiting. Transport inmates to medical destinations, other correctional facilities, and transfers to other agencies. May assist county road patrols in transporting prisoners. Provide reports of incidents, collect evidence and testify in court. Prepare notice of inmate and jail violations ensuring an orderly flow of facts and actions in the interest of prisoners and the Sheriff`s Office. Knowledge of dispatch and general office duties if called upon or replace dispatch personnel. Perform other duties as required. Monitor, receive, and transmit radio messages to law enforcement, medical, and fire personnel. Answer incoming phone calls. Fill out initial police reports. Maintain radio and phone logs. Assist jail deputies. Requires basic clerical abilities such as computer and typing skills. A typing test is required at 45 (wpm). Employer will provide additional job specific training. Patrol areas of Clearwater County. Investigate and record all reported crimes, accidents, incidents and follow up as needed. Prepare complex written reports, collect and log evidence including photography, latent prints, and physical evidence. Will testify in court, assist prosecution, investigate traffic related incidents, render aid to the public, and serve civil process and criminal arrest warrants. Must have knowledge of specific city codes, city government, and general office duties of the Clearwater County Sheriff`s Department. The deputy should have a good working knowledge of backcountry locations and search and rescue. Perform other related duties as directed or required. The Emergency Communications Officer dispatches emergency personnel by radio and other communication equipment. The Communications Specialist is responsible for answering, coordinating, and disseminating critical calls for service utilizing specialized computer-based telephone equipment. Provides information to patrol officers, detectives, records clerk, and other office personnel as needed to assist with the performance of their duties.
